As, I prepare to release Emotional Detox, Simon & Schuster May 2018, I can’t help but notice the many ways we clog up the movement of our emotions. When we clog up the movement of our emotions we become stuck, fearful and frustrated. This puts mental and physical strain on our minds and bodies.
One of the subtle ways this can occur is by hyper-focusing on the details. Now, when I speak about details, I am not referring to your to-do lists, memos, or creative projects. In this blog, I am referring to those persistent, sometimes omni-present details you hold in your head about past hurts, wounds and experiences.
One of the ways this can happen, for example, is through an unpleasant at times upsetting incident or encounter. You think to yourself, oh man, wait until I tell, so and so, what happened. So you hold the details inside long enough, hours, days, sometimes weeks, until you get a chance to release them verbally…or not.
I am always amazed at how someone can verbalize the details, sometimes years later as if they occurred yesterday. Similiar to how holding your pee can lead to a urinary track infection, hanging onto details for the sake of venting inflames your mind with fearful thoughts while depleting your organs of vital fresh energy..
What I hope to bring your attention to, is the level of toxicity being created and in many cases intensified by holding onto and over-processing your emotions.
