5 Signs Spirit Is Guiding You and How to Tune In
One of the questions I get asked most often is, "When did you first open up to Spirit?" People want to know what sparked my connection—what moment, practice, or experience heightened my ability to ask, receive, and truly trust in divine guidance.
And while I wish I could point to one dramatic event or transformational shift, the truth is, it wasn't one thing.
Not exactly.
But what my Spirit guides have shown me, again and again, is this:
It was the moment I felt something stir in my heart—and I chose to follow it.
I was about twelve years old, walking home from a babysitting job on a warm summer evening. As I passed a small church, I heard the sound of a choir pouring out through the open doors. The music was so beautiful, so soul-stirring, that I paused. Then, almost without thinking, I walked inside.
I found a spot in the back pew, sat quietly, and let the music wash over me. When it ended, I stood up and left without saying a word.
And then I went back.
That summer, I returned again and again. Sometimes I’d sit outside on the grass, just close enough to hear the harmonies drift through the door. Other times I’d slip inside, unnoticed, and sit with the music. I didn’t know it then, but those quiet moments of stillness and awe were sacred. They were my first conscious encounters with Spirit.
Years later, I began feeling those same sensations again—only this time, not outside a church, but while I was teaching yoga.
Here’s the ironic part: I didn’t even have to be physically in the class. In fact, it would often happen during my preparation. As I sat quietly and began to visualize the sequence I was going to teach—each posture, each breath, each transition—I’d suddenly find myself in that same mysterious state I experienced years ago outside those church doors. My scalp would tingle, goosebumps would ripple across my skin, and my hair would start to itch in that telltale way.
And then it would begin.
Within seconds, messages would start to flow through me—not just for myself, but for my students. It was as if my spiritual guides were choreographing the entire class. From the playlist I felt inspired to choose, to the postures I included, to the words that flowed from my mouth—everything felt divinely orchestrated.
After class, students would often come up to me, eyes wide, telling me they felt like I had been speaking directly to them. They’d say, “How did you know I needed to hear that?” The truth? I didn’t. I was so deep in the moment, so connected to something greater than myself, I often couldn’t even recall exactly what I had said.
That’s when I knew.
This wasn’t just intuition. This was Spirit.
Over time, I’ve come to understand that Spirit can show up in many different ways—and often in the most unexpected moments. The key is learning how to recognize the signs.
Here are five ways Spirit may be guiding you:
1. You Feel Drawn to Something
This might be a class that suddenly grabs your attention, a book that seems to leap off the shelf, or a person you feel inexplicably drawn to. Sometimes it’s subtle, like a quiet curiosity. Other times, it’s like a magnetic pull.
Trust that nudge. It’s often Spirit’s way of leading you exactly where you need to go—whether it’s toward healing, growth, or a new beginning.
2. You Get Chills, Goosebumps, Tingly Sensations
These physical responses are often confirmations from Spirit. They’re like energetic whispers saying, “Yes, pay attention.” You may feel them when you hear truth, speak from your soul, or enter a sacred moment of alignment.
These sensations are your body’s way of registering spiritual presence—don’t dismiss them.
3. You Become Present to the Here and Now
When Spirit is near, time seems to stretch. You drop into the moment more easily. Your breath slows. Your awareness sharpens. You feel both grounded and elevated at the same time.
In these moments, everyday distractions fall away and what remains is clarity, peace, and connection. This is the space where guidance comes through most clearly.
4. You Become More Open to New Ideas and Experiences
A connection to Spirit doesn’t just speak to you—it expands you. Your heart softens. Your mind becomes more flexible. You start to see things not just as they are, but as they could be. You’re less reactive, more reflective. You begin to understand that every experience—even the hard ones—holds the potential for growth.
5. You Notice Signs and Synchronicities
Spirit loves symbols. Whether it’s repeating numbers like 11:11, a song that speaks to your soul at just the right moment, or a meaningful object that appears when you need reassurance—these are not coincidences. They’re spiritual breadcrumbs reminding you:
You’re not alone. You’re on the path.
Recognizing these signs is just the beginning. The more you notice, the more they appear. The more you trust, the stronger the connection becomes. Spirit doesn’t need ceremony or perfection to show up—just your presence, your openness, and your willingness to receive.
If you’re ready to deepen that connection, my new book, Just Ask Spirit, offers a simple, heart-centered 7-step process to help you strengthen your intuition and communicate with your guides.
