Left unsupported low energy levels can disrupt your sleep schedule or make you feel irritated. As a result you may feel miserable, edgy or even a little depressed.
The good news is there are simple, quick ways to bring ease and balance into your life. Many of them take less than one minute to apply. Below are 4 quick tips to get you started:
Tips to Boost Your Energy
1. Extend Your Exhale
Busy lifestyles can create shallow breathing and as a result the waste never gets fully removed. One way the waste is removed from your cells in your body is through the release of carbon dioxide. You can remove carbon dioxide more easily by extending your exhale. Exhaling allows you to not only remove toxic waste but also tones one of the largest nerves in your body called the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is responsible for bringing calming messages to the brain. Try this process:
Sit or stand up tall so your abdominal area (diaphragm) can move freely.
Inhale through your nose (inflating your abdominal area like a balloon) and then exhale pull your navel toward your spine (deflating a balloon). Make your exhale one or two counts longer than your inhale. You will notice exhaling takes far less effort than inhaling. This let’s your brain and body know you are not in an emergency, and rather than expel energy for no reason at all instead your body begins to restore and replenish energy.
2. Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR)
PMR is a technique which can take your body out of the fight or flight response. As this occurs, calming sensations will increase and circulate throughout your body. Follow these steps:
Try sitting or standing up tall. Be sure you are not driving and your hands are free from holding anything.
Make a fist with both of your hands and squeeze it tightly for about 5 to 10 seconds. You may even squeeze the muscles in your arms and face while doing this. It is common to have a little bit of breath retention during this process.
Then release your palms, relax your face, jaw and shoulder. Notice how your body starts to take slower deeper breaths.
3. Try The Love Frequency
Sounds and tones at 528 Hz are known as the “love frequency” or miracles tones. These sounds can have a profound effect on inner peace and energy levels.
4. Roll on a tennis ball
Using a tennis ball can be a great way to give yourself a one minute self massage during the day or before retiring to bed. The key is to keep a tennis ball handy. There are several ways you can integrate the tennis ball into what you do. For example, if you sit at a desk, you may take off your shoes and roll the ball on the sole of your foot.
You may also place the tennis ball on the wall and roll it on your back for ten to thirty seconds. Since it is a self massage this allow you to regulate the amount of pressure you need to release tight muscles. Be sure to be gentle when massaging your neck. Always start light and have a bottle of water nearby. As your muscles begin to relax don’t be surprised if you get thirsty. If so, consider this to be a good sign.
If you are feeling sad, depressed or have high levels of anxiety it is important that you get support. Anxiety and depression won’t necessarily go away on their own. Additional resources are provided below. Be sure to stay up to date with your doctor to rule out any additional concerns.
